With both styles, you remove them each night to clean them. That way, your mouth can rest. When you wake up the next day, you put the dentures back into your mouth. Sometimes, we recommend you use denture adhesive to keep them in place and ensure the best fit.

What Are the Types of Dentures?

There are various types of dentures, and the ones you get depend on how many teeth you must replace and how you want to hold them in your mouth.

With full dentures, they replace every tooth in the lower or upper arch. Some people only require an upper denture because they’ve got most of their lower teeth. However, other people need both sets.

Partial dentures are there to replace some of the teeth. For instance, if you are missing the molars and have the incisors, we can create a partial with wires that go over your front teeth. Those false teeth sit in the empty space. Each partial is different, depending on where your missing teeth are located.

Implant-supported dentures are sometimes called mini implants. With this option, we add four screws and implants. Then, we screw the dentures over the implants.

Dentures and Partials Procedure

When you get dentures, we often make a full impression of the mouth. That gets sent to a prosthodontist, who makes and fits dentures. With that, we make very careful measurements to get the impressions so that your model denture is created.

We let you try that on and measure the fit and comfort of them. If any changes must be made, we do that now and then have them made to fit your specific mouth and needs.

In most cases, it only takes a few weeks to accomplish all of this. Once you have your new dentures, we adjust them in various ways to fit your mouth. Then, we show you how to take care of them.

Typically, the process is easy for both partials and conventional dentures. However, those who want implant-supported dentures may have a different procedure or method.

Recovery Time for Partials and Dentures

The recovery time for dentures is based on how many teeth you have. For example, if you want to extract teeth that haven’t fallen out yet, it can take weeks for the gums to heal sufficiently. From there, we follow the process of creating and fitting your dentures.

Likewise, when you have the dentures, it can take a few weeks to get used to them. Your gums and mouth are sure to be sore for a while. Therefore, you may only wear them for a few hours each day. As you continue, the gums become stronger and can support the dentures throughout the day.

This process varies for each person, but most people get used to their dentures for the full day in about two weeks.
